About Us

What does the CoffeePledge do?

CoffeePledge is a program of the Social Good Foundation, a charitable organization, created to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, education, and treatment through drink purchases and donations during CoffeeWeek. The Social Good Foundation (SGF), is an innovative charitable organization powered by social media, leveraging community-based marketing, and its voluntary support of the internet and cause marketing industries to raise awareness and funds for critical health, educational and social issues in order to make a positive impact in our community and throughout the nation.

Where does the money go?

100% of all public donations made go directly to fighting cancer. When we say 100% of your donation goes directly to the fight against cancer, we mean it.

Every single penny donated from the public to the cause gets passed directly to our charity beneficiaries to support cancer research, education, treatments, and many other cancer related needs.

In order to keep our lights on, and continue operating, we rely on private donors, foundations, corporate partners and sponsors. With these amazing donors who share the same passion as we do, we can ensure staff is paid, office rent is covered, and our technology can ramp up to accommodate the growing CoffeePledge user base.

The CoffeePledge Program

Why Cancer?

Think about it… Half of men will get cancer. 1 out of 3 women will get cancer. These numbers are staggering.

Cancer kills more people than heart disease, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.

Lives taken prematurely from cancer also affects our global economy by reducing our global GDP by more than $895 billion in 2008, and climbing to $1 trillion very soon.

When is CoffeeWeek?

This year's CoffeeWeek takes place from Monday, September 5th, through Sunday, September 11th 2011.

So whether you are working or on vacation, be sure to get ready for some great coffee socializing. If you would like to receive an update via email about CoffeeWeek, and the other awesome stuff we are doing throughout the year, register for our alerts and be the first to know everything, as it happens.

Why CoffeeWeek?

So, you ask why CoffeeWeek, and not CoffeeDay, or something else? Well… why not?

If we could get a big enough audience of coffee-lovers and cause supporters behind this movement… and you add the support of the coffee industry… whether its retailers, distributors, or coffee houses… then you combine them with a nationally coordinated week of fundraising, awareness, and cause-marketing… imagine how much we can accomplish for the cancer community.

For 7-Straight Days, anyone can buy a coffee, tea or water for consumption, or donate the value of a drink to the cause at any CoffeeWeek partner location nationwide.

100% of all donations go directly to the cause. For drinks purchased for consumption, a portion of the proceeds will go to the cause.

Portions will vary by each CoffeeWeek partner’s commitment. Both ways will raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer, and create a win-win solution for everyone involved.

Why Coffee?

More than 400 million cups of coffee are consumed every day in the US, which means about 2.8 billion weekly.

Clearly, many of us motivate ourselves each day with our beloved “wake-up juice.” So what better way to fight such a horrible disease, then with the power of something we all love and drink every day?

At an average price of $2.50, those 2.8 billion cups equal about $7 billion dollars in buying power for just one week.

The US only spends about $4.5 billion per year in the fight against cancer.

Think about it…in just one week, we drink up more than what the US spends for an entire year toward the fight against cancer. Now imagine if just a portion of those coffee dollars went to fighting cancer. CoffeeWeek creates that opportunity.

Why Pledge?

Just because we have an idea, doesn't make it come true. That's where you come in… One voice can start a movement, but millions can change the world.

If each and every one of us pledges to drink at least one cup during CoffeeWeek to support the fight against cancer, we can send a message to the right people. The more pledges we get, the more buying power we create, which also increases the influence we will have to make CoffeeWeek a success.

If you don't like Coffee, but believe in the cause, you can still pledge to drink a tea or water product. For every pledge, we demonstrate to the coffee brands, distributors, and retailers just how important it is that they join the cause with us to end cancer together.

CoffeePledge Network

Why did we create an entire CoffeePledge Social Network for users?

We believe that fighting for a cause doesn’t have to be depressing and hard work for people to do. It seemed to us that there were more positive ways to go about generating awareness, education and fundraising.

So, instead of the traditional charity routine, we wanted to try something different that leveraged our social generation more than any other charity has done before.

We love social media… we grew up in it and believe our generation needed something more relatable to bond with in order to educate, motivate, and participate.

Why didn’t we build a user directory for everyone to search?

We respect our users’ privacy without question, and we felt a directory would not be conducive to that belief. You can still search by your friend’s name, or if you are already connected via Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare, your friends will automatically display in your own timeline.

How do I earn points?

Points can be earned by unlocking badges, tweeting, Facebooking, uploading videos, donating, liking, and many other actions that you can have fun figuring out. Points vary by each action and badge.

For example, standard badges unlocked can earn you 5pts, but special badges can earn 1,000, depending on what you do. Some actions earn more than others, such as uploading a video (10pts) versus Facebooking (5pts) or Tweeting (2pts).

There are combinations of actions (clusters) you can do to unlock super value points starting at 1,000. You will have to try different things to unlock these special clusters. Hints are given in your badge gallery, or you can ask your friends who may be ahead of you on the leaderboard.

No. You submit as many as you want to better your chances at winning.

First and foremost, your video must be about coffee, or cancer, or both.

We are looking for videos that can make us laugh, or cry, or motivate us to do something. The videos can be as simple as a pledge to drink coffee during CoffeeWeek, or they can be animated shorts about dancing coffee beans. We encourage you to be creative and submit something you think might generate the most potential views.

Remember… we want you to be creative and submit videos that will generate the most potential YouTube views, so you can win. Sometimes funny works, sometimes serious works. Fake news, cartoons, music/tv/movie parodies, documentaries, inspiring stories, biographies… even babies always seem to have an effect on people too. The choice is yours… have at it.”

During CoffeeWeek, you can earn badges by checking into special locations for awesome prizes. But we don’t want to ruin the surprise… you will just have to play to find out.

Why badges?

Unlocking badges is not for everyone. However, for those of us that love the badges… we are addicted. So, we wanted to offer some fun for our badge addicts to enjoy, while at the same time saving lives one badge at a time.

Can I suggest a badge?

Sure. We are happy to hear any suggestions for enhancing the experience of our badge fanatics. Submit your suggestion the here.

I should have unlocked a badge, why isn't it showing in my gallery?

Most badges unlock automatically, however, for the bigger point badges, our system needs to have a human verify certain aspects of badge unlocks to keep it fair, so please allow at least 24hrs for those badges to show up.

If you think there’s still something not showing up for some reason, let us know here.

How many points is each badge worth?

We respect our users’ privacy without question, so we adhere to strict policies and procedures to protect their privacy.
